Read the battery before you buy the car.
Enter the VIN of a Model S, 3, X or Y. We ask Tesla for the battery’s own figures: kWh, health, and when the car reported them.

How it works
Enter a VIN
Paste the VIN from the listing, the registration document or the base of the windscreen. You see the car, its year and how likely battery data is straight away.
We ask Tesla
We request the car’s own battery estimate from Tesla and show it as state of health, battery capacity in kWh and the date the car reported them.
Keep it and compare
Every car you look up stays in your cars with its mileage, price and notes. Put two or more side by side and see which pack is holding up better.
Example report
A car we have already looked up, with its VIN replaced. This is what one lookup returns. Read it as a page, every figure explained: sample report.

How lookups are counted
- A lookup of a car that is not in your cars costs 1 lookup when Tesla returns an estimate.
- A car already in your cars costs nothing to view, as often as you like.
- Refreshing a car in your cars after 7 days costs 1 lookup.
- Lookups stay valid for 12 months after your latest purchase, and every purchase extends all of them. There is no subscription.
- Model S, 3, X and Y only. A VIN of another Tesla is refused and costs nothing.
Plain questions
What is state of health?
Tesla’s own percentage of the pack’s original capacity. Tesla does not say how it is worked out; a car that has not run its battery test can show less loss than it has, so we grade the kWh, not the %.
Where does the data come from?
From Tesla. For each VIN we request the battery estimate the car last reported to Tesla, based on vehicle telemetry. We do not guess and we do not scrape other sites.
What if Tesla has no data?
Tesla does not report a battery estimate for every VIN. Some cars have none yet, and some VINs are unknown to Tesla. When there is no estimate we say so.
Do lookups expire?
Lookups stay valid for 12 months after your latest purchase, and every purchase extends all of them. We email you a month before any lapse, so you can use them or top up. If we ever stop the service, we refund unused lookups.
Can I get a refund?
Unused lookups can be refunded within 14 days of purchase: email us with your receipt. A lookup you have used is not refundable, because it is delivered instantly and your right of withdrawal ends for it once you use it.
Which Tesla models does it cover?
Model S, 3, X and Y. A VIN of any other Tesla, such as a Cybertruck or Roadster, is refused straight away and costs no lookup.
8 more questions
Is this affiliated with Tesla?
No. Battery Figures is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. Tesla is a trademark of Tesla, Inc.
How fresh is the data?
Every report shows the date the car last reported its battery figures; the percentage and the kWh figure come from the same report. Tesla’s estimate changes slowly, so we ask Tesla at most once a day per car. A car in your cars can be refreshed after 7 days for 1 lookup.
Is this Tesla’s own data, and who pays for it?
Yes. We request each car’s figures from Tesla ourselves, and every successful lookup has a cost for us. That is why a lookup is not free.
Do you sell my VIN or email address?
No. We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. Comparison statistics are bands of many cars, shown only once enough cars share a band, never per car and never with a VIN.
Why do I need an account?
Your lookups, cars and reports are kept in it. Logging in takes your email address and no password. We use the address for login and account-deletion codes, a reminder before lookups lapse, and receipts (sent by Stripe).
Why do older Model S and Model X often show no battery value?
Tesla often has no battery estimate for them. A lookup that finds nothing is free up to a daily allowance, shown on your Account page, that grows with the lookups you have bought. After that it uses 1 lookup; the Check page says so first.
Why can a dealer’s battery health differ from yours?
The methods differ. Ours is Tesla’s own estimate from vehicle telemetry; a dealer’s figure in the delivery declaration comes from the dealer’s method, so the two numbers can differ.
Who can see a battery report I publish?
Anyone with its link. It is unlisted (the page asks search engines not to index it), you can withdraw it at any time, and it hides the registration number unless you choose to show it.
